SLAS: MUNers coming home!

News

Model UN Event

MUNers are coming home excited and eager for more !

On March 18-19th, our Wildcat MUNers attended their first in person Model UN conference.
What an exhilarating weekend of active participation, on the spot critical thinking and comprehension to make and draft amendments to resolutions, and quick, concise delivery of speeches.

Attending the MUN conference was really an eye-opening and exhilarating experience that proved to be a great learning opportunity for me. As a first-time attendee, I had the chance to meet and interact with a diverse group of people, including students from different schools who later became my friends.
One aspect that stood out to me was how the conference was predominantly run by students. I was impressed by the level of maturity, intelligence, and enthusiasm displayed by everyone. Witnessing other delegates constantly raising their plaques and confidently delivering speeches in front of everyone showcased the level of engagement and preparation they had put in.
As a result, I came to the realization that I still had a lot to learn and grow in terms of diplomacy and public speaking. I definitely want to attend more conferences in the future and strive to become more engaged and confident like the other delegates. Overall, the MUN conference was a valuable experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of it.

It was a great experience and significant milestone to both guide our very own MUNers and participate in the Model UN event at Concordia. It is a fantastic platform for all students across the world to put into practice all the skills they have learned in the classroom and online, such as negotiation, public speaking, and critical thinking. I am so proud to witness our own students rising to the occasion in unfamiliar waters. They were a bit nervous at first but very quickly I saw them get more comfortable in their committees ranging from General Assembly, ECOSOC, Human Rights, and Environment as they began to verbally participate, discuss, and present within the group of over 300 peers throughout the two day event.
The event was very well run with experienced teachers maintaining procedure as well as the Approval panel that looks over the submitted draft resolutions. I personally feel that I’ve seen all of our Wildcat participants grow through this experience and am looking forward to Model UN’s continuous development at SLAS.
